H.E. Mr. Lütfi ELVAN
Republic of Turkey, Minister of Development
H.E. Lütfi ELVAN, T.R. Minister of Development, was born in Karaman in 1962. After having his bachelor’s degree from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Mining, H.E. Lütfi ELVAN had first master’s degree from the Leeds University, Department of Mining and Operational Research in 1986 and the second one from the Delaware University in USA in the field of economy in 1995. Mr. ELVAN worked in General Directorate of ETIBANK (Mining Authority of Turkey) and State Planning Organization, Prime Ministry of Turkey at various levels. Before his election to Parliament, he had been serving as the Deputy Undersecretary of State Planning Organization. He has also worked as Vice President of the OECD Rural Development Working Group, President of the Managerial Board of European Union Education and Youth Center and the Member of the EU Negotiation Committee for Monitoring and Steering In addition to his professional carrier, H.E Lütfi ELVAN has been carrying out many political duties. In this context, he was elected as Member of Parliament from Karaman Province during the General Election in 2007. He continued his political carrier during the 2007-2011 period as Advisor to H.E. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, and also Co-chairman of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission, Chairman of the Turkey-Hungary Friendship Group. He was re-elected as the member of the parliament from Karaman in 2011. He also served as the Chairman of the Budget and Planning Commission at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. H.E. ELVAN was appointed as the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications in 26 December 2013. During the General Election in 7 June 2015, he was elected as Member of Parliament from Antalya Province and then from Mersin Province in 1 November 2015 election. H.E. ELVAN served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the 64th Government of Republic of Turkey. At present, Mr. ELVAN has been serving as Minister of Development of the 65th Government of the Republic of Turkey. Mr. Elvan can speak English fluently.
H.E. Mr. Nabi AVCI
Republic of Turkey, Minister of Culture and Tourism
Born in Bilecik in 1953, H.E. Nabi Avcı graduated from the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of Middle East Technical University. He earned his PhD in Communication Sciences from Anadolu University. In 1974, he began his career as a civil servant in Minister of Culture. During the foundation period of Anadolu University, he served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences. Nabi Avcı was appointed as an advisor at the Ministry of National Education and to the Prime Ministry. He worked also as a program director as well as newspaper columnist and an advisor to editor-in-chief at various television channels, journals and newspapers. In 2000, he became a professor of Communication Sciences Faculty at İstanbul Bilgi University. In 2003, Nabi Avcı was appointed as Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister. He served as a High Council Member of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and Chairman of the Turkish National Committee of UNESCO. He has many books as compilation and translation. For the 24th and 25th governmental terms, he was elected as Member of Parliament for the electoral district of Eskişehir. He served as National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Committee Chairman of Grand National Assembly of Turkey. On 25 January 2013, he was appointed as Minister of National Education in the cabinet of 61st Government of Turkey. He remained in his office in 62nd, 63rd, and 64th Governments of the Republic of Turkey. He serves as the Minister of Culture and Tourism in 65th Government of Turkey
H.E. Mr. Özdemir ÇAKACAK
Republic of Turkey, Governor of Mersin
Born in 1960 in Adapazarı, Mr Çakacak graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Business Administration at Ankara University in 1984. He became Vice-District Governor in Mustafakemalpaşa and Savaştepe Districts. He worked as Disctrict Governor in Erzurum-Pazaryolu, Yozgat-Akdağmadeni. He carried out many duties such as Head of Department in General Directorate of Provincal Administration, Vice General Manager in Civil Defence. He had been the Governor of Van Province between 23.03.2007 and 11.06.2009, of Uşak Province between 01.07.2009 and 03.08.2012, of Kırşehir Province between 17.08.2012 and 15.09.2014. He has become the Governor of Mersin in 16.09.2014 and he is still carrying his duty as Governor of Mersin.
Burhanettin KOCAMAZ
Mayor, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality
Born in 1955 in Tarsus, Mersin, Mr. Kocamaz completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Tarsus. He was graduated from Gazi University, Department of Chemical Engineering in 1977. He worked as Chemistry Teacher while he was continuing the Law Faculty in Ankara University. He founded the Kocamazlar Agriculture Co. Ltd. in 1987. He was elected as the Mayor of Tarsus during the local elections in 1994. Mr. Kocamaz carried out his duty during four electional terms. He is currently the Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality since 2014. He is also the founding member of Association of Historical Towns, Union of Municipalities in Turkey and Union of Municipalities in Çukurova. He is the Executive Board member in Union of Turkish World Municipalities. Mr. Kocamaz was awarded with the title of “Honorary PhD” by the Azerbaijan Baku State University thanks to his contributions to the Turkish World and the event “Karacaoğlan Poetry Nights”. He was also awarded with the “Turkish World Special Service Award” and “Decorate of Golden Honor”.
Şerafettin Aşut
President of the Mersin CCI

Aşut has been running “Asut Fiberglass” since 1983. He is one of the founders and first Executive Board Members of MORSKUD – Mersin Organized Industrial Zones Users Foundation. He was elected as the Vice-President of TOSYÖV- Mersin Support Foundation. He is also one of the founders of İSGEV – Mersin Technological Development and Education Fund.

He carried out the vice-presidency of Mersin Technoscope between 2006 and 2010 and the Presidency of Mersin Organized Industrial Zone in 2004. He represented Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry at TUBİTAK Science and Technology Board between 2009 and 2010. In 2009, he was elected as the President of Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the President of ASCAME Industry Commission respectively.

He was elected as the President of the Logistics Commission of ASCAME and he still carries out this duty. He was the Board and Executive Committee Member, and Vice-President of DEİK – Foreign Economic Relations Board in 2014 respectively.

Jerónimo Pérez Casero
President of the ASCAME Tourism Commission
Jerónimo Pérez Casero began his career as Head of Division of the textile company INTELHORCE. In 2002, he was elected as the President of the Malaga Chamber of Commerce. He was re-elected in the following two consecutive elections for this position he is currently occupying. He is also the President of the ASCAME Tourism Commission and since 2011, he chairs the Consignee Association of Shipping and Port Companies of Malaga.
Dr. Alaa E. EZZ
Board Member, Med-Alliance
Dr. Ezz has worked in the sustainable development fields for over 25 years during which he designed and implemented a host of projects and established companies in the Mediterranean and Arab regions. These regional projects encompassed industry, transport and logistics, environment, investment promotion, technology transfer, trade liberalization and promotion, renewable energy and infrastructure, gender, HR development, finance and media. On the public side, Dr. Ezz is the Secretary General of the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations, the EgyptianRussian and Egyptian-German Business Councils, the Coordinator of Union of Mediterranean Employers Federations “BusinessMed”; the Executive Board Member of the Med-Alliance, Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME). Dr. Ezz has obtained post-graduate degrees and conducted research in the fields of Economics and Environment. His published work includes tens of scientific papers and economic studies, hundreds of articles and several books. He is currently the Secretary General of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.
Dr. Ghassan Aidi
President of the International Hotels and Restaurants Association (IHRA)

Dr. Ghassan AIDI, A 30 years veteran of Hospitality Industry and Chairman and chief executive officer – Royal Regency International Hotels, a US company based in Washington, DC as well as the President of International Hotels and Restaurants Association (IHRA) and founder and President of Mediterranean Hotels & Restaurants Association (MHRA).

Under Ghassan AIDI’s leadership, IHRA was a co founder with UNWTO of the task force for the protection of Children Worldwide, Chosen by United Nations Foundation to create and define the criteria for sustainable development in Hospitality. Creating with ILO for the first memorandum of labor force in Hospitality and lately working with IOM to encourage Mobility of Labor Worldwide.

He supports the creation of Hotels standardization and Hotel classification and he is working through MHRA for the defining of criteria for sustainable development for Hotels in Mediterranean under the Label EMERAUDE HOTEL

Başaran Ulusoy
President of TURSAB

Born in 1949 in Trabzon, Ulusoy, graduated from İstanbul Economical and Commercial Science Academy in 1970. He had been working in other fields such as construction, shipping, transportation and insurance before taking step into tourism.

He performed as TURSAB Executive Board Member and Treasurer Member in 1981. Becoming the President of TURSAB between 1991-1993, Ulusoy became the President of TURSAB for the second time in 1999. He still serves in Advisory Committee of Turkey Environment and Education Foundation, SKAL International (International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals), Turkey Touring and Automobile Organization and as an Executive Board Member of DEİK

Kristijan PAVIC
President-Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports (MEDCRUISE)

Mr. Kristijan Pavić is the President of MedCruise following serving two years (2014-2016) as Senior Vice-President of the Association representing cruise ports in the Med and its adjoining seas. His professional development has so far brought him a variety of experiences within the cruise industry. Following graduation in maritime sciences (Split University), he worked as cruise company employee onboard ship. In 2006-2010 he became the General Manager of County Dubrovnik Port Authority, and since 2010 he serves the Dubrovnik port authority, as General Manager (2010-2012) or deputy General Manager (2012–today). He has been professionally active in cruise destination management, the enhancement of the cooperation between ports and cities, as well as in the development of partner relations between cruise market stakeholders, in the Adriatic Region and beyond.

Antonio Garcia DEL VALLE
Advisor to the President, Malaga Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation

Born in 1935, Antonio García del Valle has a long professional experience in Tourism by having occupied positions such as member of the Executive Council “Promoters of the Costa del Sol”, President of the Airport and Tourism Commissions of the CCI Malaga respectively in 1998/2002 and 2002/2010. He has also been really involved in the International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals: SKÅL CLUB (A.I.S.C) by being successively President of the Spanish Federation in 1977, President of the International Council in 1978, President of the International Association SKÅL in 1994. In 2003 he was elected Honorary President of AISC. He has received various awards such as the SKÅL Gold Medal for Merit, the Bronze and Silver Medals for Tourism Merit of Spanish Government and the Honor Medal for promoting Tourism in Ibiza.

Hüseyin Baraner
General Manager of the Inter Dialog Institute
In 2005 Hüseyin Baraner founded his own company TRAVELNETWORK and acted as Advisor for Turkey on behalf of the TUI AG. At the same time he also served as Advisor for Turkey for the German travel agency cooperation RTK which represents about 5,000 travel agencies and belongs to the German Raiffeisen-Bank. He also served as the Secretary General of Tour Operators Foundation.
Jean-Marc MIGNON
President of the International Social Tourism Organisation

From 1991 until 2010, he has been the general director of the National Union of Associations of Tourism, in France. He has also had international responsibilities, first as President of the Federation of International Youth Travel Organizations (FIYTO), from 1987 until 1997…and, in 2010, He was elected (and rellected until 2018) as President of the International Social Tourism Organisation (ISTO), based in Brussels. He is a French citizen and lives in Paris. ISTO has particularly worked, over the last five years, on senior tourism, together with the European Commission, and he personally started a program for senior citizens in France. Mignon is also a member of the World Committee fon Tourism Ethics of UNWTO.

Alison Burgh
Director @ Acorn Tourism Consulting Ltd
Alison founded Acorn Tourism in 2002 with Kevin Millington. Her skills encompass consumer research, the holiday property market, event tourism, production management, sales and marketing. She worked for the Consumers’ Associations in London, Hong Kong, Penang and Sydney before spending seven years producing some of the world’s largest live music television events. Alison is the author of numerous niche market tourism studies and advises destinations around the world how to develop tourism products to appeal their target markets.
Prof. Dr. Emine ÖZMETE
Academician - Ankara University

Emine Özmete is professor at Ankara University, at the Department of Social Work. She is the head of the Center on Aging Studies Implementation and Research at Ankara University. She is conducting her studies about quality of life, well-being, social capital, life skill education, financial behavior- financial planning and resource management in the family and aging studies.

She has become Associate Professor in 2006 in the Department of Social Work. She visited to USA Iowa State University, Department of Family Studies and Human Development as scholar.  Prof. Özmete is a respective member of International Federation on Aging, International Federation on Social Work and International Federation on Home Economic. She also makes contrubitons to Euopean Network on Intercultural Elderly Care (ENIEC) as a member. 

She is advisory member of Family and Social Politics Ministry.

Erkunt ÖNER
Tura Turizm, Chairman and CEO

Erkunt Öner started his professional tourism career with the tour guiding license which he received through the support of the Ministry of Tourism while studying law at Ankara University at the age of 21. In 1964, he took a Tourism Training Program in Brussels offered by the Belgian Government. In 1972 he completed his academic career with a degree in International Relations, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies at Sorbonne University.

He founded Tura Turizm in 1966 as an inbound and outbound tour operator based in Istanbul. Over the past 50 years, the company has grown dynamically to become one of the strongest tour operators in Turkey. During his career, Erkunt Öner owned and managed cruise ships, ferries and hotels of various sizes. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Istanbul from 1990 until 2000. He participated as an interim lecturer at Seatrade Cruise Academy in Cambridge in 2012. He has often been a speaker at Seatrade Conferences in Miami, Europe and the Mediterranean, PSA, Med Cruise, and WTM. Tura Turizm is a family owned business run by a corporate framework. Erkunt Öner has served as Chairman and CEO of Tura Turizm for 50 years, from its founding to the present.

Esencan Terzibaşoğlu
Destination Management and Quality Programme Director – UNWTO

Ms. Esencan Terzibasoglu has been working in the UNWTO since 2001 as the responsible person for supervising and running the programme initiatives in the area of tourism destination management. She studied “urban and regional planning” in the Middle East Technical University (1976) in Ankara, Turkey and worked 25 years in the public sector in Turkey and abroad.

During her  various posts  in the public sector, she also contributed as an international expert to some research projects and initiatives conducted by international organizations such as UNEP, particularly on “sustainable tourism development and management” in the Mediterranean coastal zones. In the meantime she contributed to various technical committees under the umbrella of several intergovernmental organizations like WTO (UNWTO), UNESCO, HABITAT, OECD, MEMMTA etc.

Dr. Murat Yalçıntaş
Former President of ASCAME

Born in 1965 in Istanbul, Yalçıntaş completed his secondary and high school education in Saint Joseph French High School. After graduating from Boğaziçi University Faculty of Mechanics, he completed the Common MBA Program at Boston and Vrije Universities between 1988 and 1990, the PhD in Business Administration at Istanbul University (on Customer Satisfaction in Service Sector) between 2005 and 2007. Owning companies operating on casting, heating and ventilation and telecommunication sectors, Murat Yalçıntaş was elected as Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Council Member from the Hardware Committee (No: 70) during the 1995 and 1999 elections. He was elected as the President of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce in 2005 and reelected to this mission in 2009. Carrying on many duties in various institutions during his Presidency at ICC, he was elected as the President of Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) between 2007-2012. He contributed to ASCAME in terms of institutionalising and providing Mediterranean to become the most powerful voice of the sector. As well as the success he achieved in terms of the representation of Turkey abroad and enhancing bilateral relations, he was awarded with Order of State by France, Légion d’Honneur, and Order of State by Italy, Commendatore, in 2010.

Dr. Murat Yalçıntaş was married with three children. He speaks fluent English and French; as well as German and Arabic at midlevel.

Ahmed EL-WAKIL, President
Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce

Ahmed Al Wakil, has carried out many duties in various public and private institutions. He served as a Member of the Committee of 50 Drafting the Egyptian Constitution; Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC); Board Member of ArabBelgium-Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce in Brussels; Vice Chairman of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. Moreover, he has been serving for many other duties recently as well. He is the Chairman and Founder of Wakalex Group; Chairman of El Wakil CottonGins, El Beheira Rice Mills and El Wakil Oil Mills as well as Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC), Chairman of Union of African Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Professions (UACCIAP), Senior Vice Chairman of Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Egyptian-Syrian Business Council, Board Member of Alexandria Ports Authority; Vice Chairman in the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME).

Osman AYIK
President, Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TUROFED)

Osman Ayık was born in 1958, in Sivas, Turkey. He obtained his early education in Ankara; received a B.A. from Middle East Technical University, in Ankara and completed his Master Degree in Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada. He had been the President of Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers Association (AKTOB) between the years of 2003 and 2007. He, besides, has been one of the Execuive Board Members of the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TUROFED) since its establishment and was elected as the President of TUROFED in 2011. Mr. Ayık works as a General Manager in their family establishment Champion Holiday Village since 1988 in Antalya, Turkey.

Konstantinos NIKOLOUTSOS
President, Chamber of Ilia Prefecture

Born in Pirgos Ilias in 1951, Mr. Nikoloutsos graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens. He has been practicing civil engineering within the construction industry and has participated in various large scale projects in Southwestern Greece. He was elected as President of the Ilia Chamber in 2011, a position he holds ever since. Ilia Chamber is an active member of AIC FORUM and the ASCAME. Both the historical ancient city of Olympia were the Olympic Games took place from 776 B.C. since 393 A.C., and also the port of Katakolon one of the most important cruise ports in Greece are situated. within the region of Ilia.He serves also as a member of the Tourism Committee of the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce. From 2002 to 2006, he was elected as the Head of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Pyrgos. He speaks fluently English and Italian.

Can Akşit
President, SKAL Turkey National Committee

Born in 1957 in Trabzon, Can Akşit completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. He stayed in England for a year during his language training. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Languages, History and Geography, Department of English Language and Literature and started his work life in Büyük Ankara Hotel in 1976. Akşit worked there until 1987. Can Akşit has been the General Manager of Adana Seyhan Hotel since 1990. He is married with a daughter. Akşit speaks English fluently.

He is one of the Founding Members of Adana Union of Forces Foundation. He served as the Former President and Member of Adana Çukurova Rotary Club, Vice-President of Association of Çukurova Touristic Hoteliers, Executive Board Member of Çukurova Philharmonic Foundation and Founding Member of SKAL International Çukurova. Can Akşit is the President of SKAL International Turkey.

George SALIBA
Special Representative of Secretary General – Union for Mediterranean (UfM)

Working as a Lecturer in University of Malta between 1971 and 1973 related to the courses which are Political Philosophy and Government, Mr. George Saliba had held a duty as President and Founder of Maltese Arab Friendship Society between 1976 and 1978 as well as General Manager in KPH Feed Mill between 1978-1981. With a twenty-year-long diplomatic career, Saliba worked as ambassador to many countries within the body of Foreign Ministry in Malta such as Saudi Arabia (1981-1987), Libya (1987-1993), Russian Federation (1993-1997), United States (1999-2003) as well as a Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (1997-1999). He has been currently carrying his duty as Business Consultant in Database Management Systems (DBMS) since 2004. And he is the Special Representative of the Secretary General in the Union for Mediterranean (UfM).

Dr. Éric Jean
Academician at Hitit University
Éric Jean was born in Nantes (France) in 1959. A graduate in History of Nantes University, Eric studied later on Archaeology at Paris 1 – Panthéon – Sorbonne University, where he specialized in Ancient Near East protohistory and Hittite Civilization. His PhD focused on the 2nd Millennium B.C. in southern Turkey (in classical Cilicia).

Fluent in French, English and Turkish he is a specialist on Anatolia during the 2nd and the beginning of the 1st Millennium B.C., with specific focus on the interpretation of the Hittite related material production.

Marie Claude TREMOUILLE
Researcher, Hititologist

Philologist with interests in History and Civilization of Anatolia from the third to the first millennium B.C., Marie Claude Trémouille’s researches mainly concern: Hittites and Hurrians, Historical Geography and History of Religions as well as Onomastic studies and Lexicography. She lead two specific research programs. The first is devoted to the southeastern region of Anatolia (modern Cilicia), known in the Hittite literature as the country Kizzuwatna; the second is directed to establish a Corpus of onomastic data in the Hittite texts. Currently she has been carrying out a historical and geographical study of the Cilicia between the thirteenth and seventh century B.C. She is a Senior Researcher Emerita, former Director of the Institute for the Study of Civilizations of the Aegean and the Near East of the Italian National Council of Research. Trémouille is currently member of the International Association of Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (ISMEO), Near East Department. She also collaborates in the “Hethitische Forschungen the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur Mainz” Project.

Isabella CANEVA
Academician-Lecce University

Born in Venice (Italy), Isabella Caneva is associate Professor in “Prehistory of the Near East” at the University of Lecce, Faculty of Cultural Heritage, as well as at the School of Specialization in Archaeology, at the same University.

She is a permanent member of the Doctoral School in Prehistoric
Archaeology at the University of Rome La Sapienza and was a frequent member of jury for Research Doctorate in Prehistory in France (Paris I, La Sorbonne, Aix en Provence and Paris X, Nanterre). She is a member of the advisory board of several scientific reviews, as well as of international scientific associations.

She has been responsible for several research projects and participated or directed over sixty archaeological campaigns in Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, and France. She has been the Director of the “Mission for Prehistoric Research in Egypt and Sudan” since 1985 and of the “Italian Archaeological Mission at Mersin-Yumuktepe (Turchia)” since 1993. 

Prof. Dr. Emel ERTEN
Academician, Gazi University

Emel Erten was born in Ankara and she is a graduate of TED Ankara College. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ankara University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Classical Archaeology and Contemporary Anatolian Archaeology. She obtained her master’s degree from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Restoration and PhD from Ankara University, Faculty of Letters, Department of History of Art. She worked as an archaeologist and department director in the Ministry of Culture between 1983-1997. She became Assistant Professor at Mersin University in 1997 and Associate Professor in 2005. Between 2008 and 2011 she worked as associate professor at Gazi University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Archaeology. Since 2011, she has been the Professor of Archaeology in the same department. She has been director of archaeological surveys and excavations at Mersin Silifke Olba since 2001.

Prof. Dr. Ayşe Aydın
Academician, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University

Graduated from Ankara University Department of Archaeology and Art History in 1993, Ayşe Aydın, completed her doctorate with her thesis titled, “Emirzeli: A Settlement in Mountainous Cilicia from Hellenistic Period until Late Ancient Period” in Christian Archaeology and Byzantine Art History Department at Philipps University, Marburg, Germany. She received the titles of Associate Professorship and Professorship in field of “Early Christianity and Arts of Byzantine” in 2003 and 2010 respectively.

She has many international and national projects, in most of which acted as coordinator and especially in fields of Late Ancient Byzantine Period construction and handcrafts of Cilicia and Isaura Region; Christian Art in Mediterranean Region during the Ottoman Period and two published books related to different subjects on Early Christianity-Byzantine Period, a translation book, her own chapters in the mentioned book and articles published both international and national refereed journals.
